A Social Experiment with POF
I took a ridiculous photo of myself with no makeup and curlers over the weekend, and my friends and I decided it would be funny to do an experiment with it. We set it as my profile photo on Plenty of Fish and waited to see what kind of messages I got (if any). The results were…. not what I expected.
This is what the photo looked like:
And these are some samples of the messages that I got:
There was this guy who was probably joking…
And this guy who is apparently turned on by curlers in a very “special” way…
And this guy who gets points for having a sense of humor…
And this guy who was concerned by the photo, but not TOO concerned…
There was this guy who just really enjoys life… (side note: upon further investigation of his profile, this guy has some strong career aspirations. He works as a “paper boooiiiiii”, and he wants to go to the moon some day)
There was this guy who just thought the photos were funny…
And this guy who still hasn’t figured out that pickup lines don’t really work (side note: he was like 18)
And finally this guy, who we can classify as one of the “nice guys of POF”. I am including the “about me” section of this profile because this one’s a winner…
And then about 40 other messages that were shockingly normal and made no comment whatsoever about the obvious weirdness of my photos.
The verdict: I got about 2x more messages with the curlers photo than with my normal one. I’m not actually sure how I feel about that haha.
